College Park Scholars

Along with my acceptance to the University of Maryland, I was invited to join a selective living-learning program called College Park Scholars.   I accepted this invitation and chose to join the Arts program in College Park Scholars.

In my first few days at UMD, I applied to represent my Arts division of the Scholars program on the Student Advisory Board, on which I served for two years.  Additionally, I undertook the job of co-planning a large Scholars event for which I personally advertised using social networking, listservs, and program websites.  Here I gained experience in project management, marketing, and leadership.  In 2009, I received the Citizenship Award from College Park Scholars.

For three years in college, I worked as the Undergraduate Coordinator for Alumni Relations in the College Park Scholars Office of External Relations and Development.  I compiled a comprehensive report comparing parallel national programs similar to the Scholars program offered by UMD.  I contributed to database and alumni outreach efforts via phone and e-mail and led prospective student tours.  I also planned events for alumni networking and student career panels.  The tasks I executed here contributed to my strong writing, organizational, analytical, and interpersonal skills.  In 2011, I received the Undergraduate Studies “Student Employee of the Year” award.  More information can be found here
